Set action

Use the Set action in the SNMP package to set a value for an object managed by the SNMP agent.

Procedure

  1. In the Actions palette, double-click or drag the Set action from the SNMP package.
  2. In the Agent field, enter details of the device on which the SNMP agent is available.
  3. Click the SNMP Version drop-down menu to select one of the following options to specify the SNMP version that must be used:
    OptionAction
    V1 Specify the community string you want to use in the Community field.
    V2C Specify the community string you want to use in the Community field.
    V3 Specify the community string you want to use in the Community field.

    Click the Authentication level drop-down menu to specify one of the following level of authentication:

    • None: Authentication will not be used.
    • Authentication Only: Enables you to use authentication only.
      1. Select MD5 or SHA from the Authentication method list to specify the authentication method you want to use.
      2. In the Password field, click one of the following tabs:
        • Credential: To use a value from the Credential Vault.

          (Optional) Click Pick to choose a credential.

        • Variable: To use a credential variable.
        • Insecure string: To manually specify the value you want to use.
    • Authentication and privacy: Enables you to use authentication and privacy.
      1. Select MD5 or SHA from the Authentication method list to specify the authentication method you want to use.
      2. In the Password field, click one of the following tabs:
        • Credential: To use a value from the Credential Vault.

          (Optional) Click Pick to choose a credential.

        • Variable: To use a credential variable.
        • Insecure string: To manually specify the value you want to use.
      3. Click Privacy method drop-down menu and select DES or AES to specify the privacy method you want to use.
      4. In the Private key field, click one of the following tabs:
        • Credential: To use a value from the Credential Vault.

          (Optional) Click Pick to choose a credential.

        • Variable: To use a credential variable.
        • Insecure string: To manually specify the value you want to use.
  4. In the Object ID field, specify the ID of the object for which you want to retrieve details.
  5. From the Value type list, select an option to specify the value you want to set.
    • OctetString
    • Integer
    • Gauge
    • TimeTicks
    • IP
    • ObjectID
    • OctetByteString
    • OctetDecimalByteString
    • NULL
  6. In the Set value field, specify the value you want to set.
  7. Click the SNMP advanced options drop-down menu and enter the values in the following fields:
    • Timeout(ms): Specify the time (in milliseconds) for the action to wait before generating an error.
    • Remote port: Specify the port number of the remote device.
    • Retries: Specify the maximum number of times the action must try to retrieve the details.
  8. In the Log file field, click one of the following tabs:
    • Control Room file: To select a file that is available on the Control Room to store the result.

      Click Choose to select a file.

    • Desktop file: To select a file that is available on a device to store the result.

      Click Browse to locate and select a file.

    • Variable: To select a variable by specifying the file location that you want to use to store the result.
  9. Click Save.
