Learn how to install the Process Discovery Sensor in a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment and create a portable package.

Prerequisites

Many VDI environments do not allow msi installs that install as the user, especially if they are non-persistent desktops. If the msi installer does not work in your environment, you must create a portable installer on a machine with access to the Automation Anywhere Process Discovery platform.

Procedure

  1. Install the Process Discovery Sensor using the MSI installer. For more details, see Installing Process Discovery Sensor.
    Ensure that Process Discovery Sensor is running. The Process Discovery Sensor icon displays in the bottom right corner of the system tray.
  2. Navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Programs\Neo2 and copy the files that the Process Discovery Sensor installer created in that folder to a different folder.
    For example, you can name the folder Process Discovery Sensor files.
  3. In Windows Explorer, search in Add or remove programs.
  4. Locate the Process Discovery Sensor app and remove the program.
    This removes the existing install folder and the registry settings.
  5. Copy the Process Discovery Sensor files that you put in a folder to any folder on the VDI server.
  6. Create a startup script to start the Neo2.exe on login for users that will run the Process Discovery Sensor.
    By default, the Process Discovery Sensor needs write access to the folder it is running from because that is where the Process Discovery Sensor writes the logs and downloads the configuration from the platform. Since the Process Discovery Sensor runs in the user space, users need write access to that folder. If you do not want users to have write access to that folder, you can specify a different writable folder to store the logs and the Process Discovery Sensor configuration.
