Build your automations in secure recording mode to ensure that sensitive data is not captured or stored in your automations. Secure recording ensures that the bots do not capture values of certain properties or store application images.

Note:
  • This setting only applies to automations that are created or edited after the mode is enabled.
  • You must have admin privileges to enable the secure recording mode. See Configure Settings

To enable secure recording, see Secure recording

To capture objects in secure recording mode, ensure that the Recorder package is set to 2.0.0-20200318-020414 or later. See Manage Control Room packages.

Preview and storage of captured images

When you record a task in secure recording mode, the Preview window temporarily shows the captured area. This image is deleted after you close the automation.

You can choose whether you prefer the captured images to be available for preview and stored in the Control Room. To do the required settings:
  1. Enable Secure Recording from the Control Room.
  2. Enable or disable the Recorder preview image settings. See Secure recording
Note: Ensure that you use the latest version of the Recorder package. If you are using the 2.7.3-20220527-004608 or an older version of the Recorder package, a preview of the images will be shown in the Bot editor when the objects are captured. The images will be discarded when you refresh the Bot editor.

Deleting unused object properties

For new automations, when capturing objects in secure recording mode, you can enable the Automatically delete unused object properties on save option to automatically discard the values of unused object properties. When this option is enabled, any object property values not part of the search criteria will be removed upon saving and refreshing the automation. This helps ensure that personally identifiable information (PII) is not inadvertently stored in the automation, thereby enhancing data security and compliance.

For more information on how to enable the secure recording settings, see Secure recording
Note: If you are using Generative Recorder to automate your tasks and have enabled the Automatically delete unused object properties on save option, then the Generative AI fallback is not supported.

Object properties

The following object properties are not automatically captured by default as they might contain sensitive data. If required, you can manually update the values of these properties to uniquely search the object. In addition, you can also review and ensure that any of these object properties do not contain any potentially sensitive data.
