Review the FAQs to learn more about Agent Interoperability.

  1. Why can't I use REST API calls to run Automation Anywhere automations from my AI Agents? Why do I need to use MCP?

See 传统 API 与 MCP 入站的对比.

  2. How does Automation Anywhere ensure tools security for MCP inbound tool calling?

MCP clients are supported through centralized governance: RBAC and authentication (API keys).

    1. Every tool call is authenticated.
    2. Once a user is authenticated, we check if they are authorized to use certain automations. They can only access automations in the Control Room repository if they have the right permissions.
    3. Data security while in transit: All interactions between the MCP client and MCP server, and between the MCP server and the Automation Anywhere Control Room, are encrypted. We use TLS 1.2 encryption, which ensures all communication is secure.
  3. What is PRE-powered MCP, and how does PRE-integration help MCP?

Our MCP inbound interactions are powered by our Process Reasoning Engine (PRE). The PRE has a deep understanding of all the Automation Anywhere automations, processes, API Tasks, and AI Agents. It knows what they are and what they can do. When a user requests to use an MCP inbound tool from a third-party AI assistant, our PRE understands the user's intent and the context of the request. Then, it matches this with the unique automation in the Automation Anywhere repository.

  4. What Agent Interoperability capabilities are included with each license?
    For Cloud customers:
    • The Base platform license provides core Agent Interoperability. This allows third-party AI assistants to trigger Automation Anywhere automations using MCP inbound. It helps customers connect external AI Agents to existing automations with minimal setup.
    • The Enterprise platform license includes everything in the Base license, plus advanced interoperability features, like PRE integration. PRE automatically creates descriptions for automations and their input and output variables that both humans and agents can read. This makes it easier to find MCP tools and helps third-party AI Agents understand what an automation does, what inputs it needs, and what outputs it returns. This leads to more accurate and reliable agent interactions.
  5. In which regions is PRE integration available for Agent Interoperability?

PRE integration for Agent Interoperability is available for Enterprise customers in the US and EU Cloud regions. Customers with Control Rooms in these regions can use PRE to automatically create automation and variable descriptions. This helps improve MCP-based tool discovery and agent interactions.
