Upgrade considerations

To ensure a successful upgrade to Automation Anywhere Enterprise version 11.3.x, review these considerations before starting the upgrade process.

Upgrading the Automation Anywhere Enterprise Client

When installing the new Enterprise Client 11.3.x.x version over an existing 10.x or 11.x (versions before 11.3) version, perform the following steps:
  1. Uninstall any existing Enterprise Client (versions before 11.3).
  2. Install the full version of the 11.3 Enterprise Client.
  3. Install any new 11.3.x.x version with the provided setup file.

The Enterprise Client points to the same repository path, ensuring access to the existing bots.

Upgrading the Automation Anywhere Control Room

Review the following version-specific considerations before upgrading:
Version 11.3.5
  • Version 11.3.5.3When upgrading the Control Room from Version 11.3.5 or Version 11.3.5.1 to Version 11.3.5.3, you will experience a downtime, while performing a HA setup. Before you start the upgrade, perform the following actions:
    • Pause all the WLM queues and ensure that there are no Work Items in progress.
    • During the upgrade, the Enterprise Client might be disconnected from the Control Room. Log in again to all the devices after the upgrade is complete.
  • Version 11.3.5.3When you install the Control Room Version 11.3.5.3 patch on any one of the versions such as Version 11.3.5, Version 11.3.5.1, or Version 11.3.5.2, in the Service Credentials and Provide Elasticsearch Credentials screen, enter the same password you provided in the previous version (Version 11.3.5, Version 11.3.5.1, or Version 11.3.5.2).

When you perform a script installation of the Control Room Version 11.3.5.3 patch on Version 11.3.5, Version 11.3.5.1, or Version 11.3.5.2, include the AA_CRSERVICEUSERNAME, AA_CRSERVICEPASSWD, and AA_ESPASSWD parameters for service and Elasticsearch credentials. You must provide the same password for the user name as the one that you provided in the previous version (Version 11.3.5, Version 11.3.5.1, or Version 11.3.5.2).

    Installing Control Room using scripts.

  • Version 11.3.5.2When upgrading the Control Room to Version 11.3.5.2, you might experience a downtime. To avoid this downtime, perform the following actions:
    • Before you start the upgrade, pause all the WLM queues and ensure that there are no Work Items in progress.
    • During the upgrade, the Enterprise Client might be disconnected from the Control Room. Log in again to all the devices after the upgrade is complete.
  • Version 11.3.5.2 When you instal the Control Room Version 11.3.5.2 patch on any one of the versions such as Version 11.3.5 or Version 11.3.5.1, in the Service Credentials and Provide Elasticsearch Credentials screen, enter the same password you provided in the previous version (Version 11.3.5 or Version 11.3.5.1).

When you perform a script installation of the Control Room Version 11.3.5.2 patch on Version 11.3.5 or Version 11.3.5.1, include the AA_CRSERVICEUSERNAME, AA_CRSERVICEPASSWD, and AA_ESPASSWD parameters for service and Elasticsearch credentials. You must provide the same password for the user name as the one that you provided in the previous version (Version 11.3.5 or Version 11.3.5.1).

    Installing Control Room using scripts.

  • Version 11.3.5.1If any active schedule exists in your system, perform the following additional steps before installing the Version 11.3.5.1 patch:
    1. Navigate to the config folder in the Control Room installation folder.

      For example: C:\Program Files\Automation Anywhere\Enterprise\config

    2. Create a property file with the filename as quartz.properties.

      The property filename is case-sensitive.

If the property file already exists, open it in the edit mode.

    3. Add the following property in the quartz.properties file on each node. The property key and value are case-sensitive.

      org.quartz.scheduler.instanceName=scheduler

    4. Save the file.
    5. Follow the steps to install the Version 11.3.5.1 patch.
  • Version 11.3.5When upgrading from Version 11.2.x to Version 11.3.5, the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) fetch job might fail. This occurs because the Active Directory connectivity fails due to the upgrade, and it requires setting up the LDAP credentials again. After setting up the LDAP credentials, restart the following Control Room services to automatically restart the FQDN fetch job:
    • Automation Anywhere Control Room Messaging
    • Automation Anywhere Control Room Reverse Proxy
    • Automation Anywhere Control Room Service
    • Automation Anywhere Control Room Caching
  • Version 11.3.5If you are upgrading from any Version 11.3.x to Version 11.3.5 with three or more than three nodes in a cluster, you must perform the additional steps before installing the Version 11.3.5. See this article for additional steps: How to perform V11.3.5 Upgrade with 3+ Nodes in Cluster (A-People login required).
Version 11.3.4
  • Version 11.3.4.5When upgrading the Control Room from Version 11.3.4, Version 11.3.4.1, Version 11.3.4.2, Version 11.3.4.3 to Version 11.3.4.5, you might experience a downtime.
Note: You will not experience a downtime when upgrading the Control Room from Version 11.3.4.4 to Version 11.3.4.5.
  • Version 11.3.4.4When upgrading the Control Room to Version 11.3.4.4, you might experience a downtime.
  • Version 11.3.4.3You cannot install the Version 11.3.4.3 patch directly over the Version 11.3.4.2 patch. If you are currently on the Version 11.3.4.2 patch, perform the following steps:
    1. Uninstall the existing Version 11.3.4.2 patch to revert to the Version 11.3.4.1 patch.
    2. Install the Version 11.3.4.3 patch.
      • If you are using the Version 11.3.4.1 patch, you can directly upgrade to the Version 11.3.4.3 patch.
      • The Enterprise Client might be disconnected from the Control Room while upgrading Control Room to Version 11.3.4.3 for high-availability setup. Relogin to all the devices after the upgrade is complete.
During upgrades, the database data is retrieved automatically. The user performing the upgrade must have the minimum database permissions. See Database requirements.
Version 11.3.3
  • You cannot uninstall the Version 11.3.3.2 or later patches when it is applied over the Version 11.3.3.1 patch. We recommend installing the Version 11.3.3.2 or later patches over the base Version 11.3.3. If you are currently on the Version 11.3.3.1 patch, perform the following steps:
    1. Uninstall the existing Version 11.3.3.1 patch to revert to the base Version 11.3.3.
    2. Install the Version 11.3.3.2 or later patch.
  • Version 11.3.3 The upgrade process for Version 11.3.3 is faster and requires minimal inputs. It allows you to review previous configuration as they are displayed as is and update certain configurations. See Upgrade to a higher 11.x version.
Version 11.3.2
  • Version 11.3.2.4You cannot directly install the Version 11.3.2.4 patch over the Version 11.3.2.1 and Version 11.3.2.2 patches. If you try to apply this patch, a warning message appears that restricts you from installing the Version 11.3.2.4 patch over Version 11.3.2.1 or Version 11.3.2.2 patch.

If you are currently on either Version 11.3.2.1 or Version 11.3.2.2 patch, perform the following steps:

    1. Uninstall your current patch to revert to the base Version 11.3.2.
    2. Install the Version 11.3.2.4 patch.

If you are currently using the base Version 11.3.2, you can directly apply the Version 11.3.2.4 patch.

  • Version 11.3.2.3The Control Room installer is not available for the Version 11.3.2.3 release.
  • Version 11.3.2.2 If you already have the previous Control Room patch installed, you must uninstall the previous patch before installing the Control Room Version 11.3.2.2 patch.
  • Version 11.3.2.2 Reboot the server after uninstalling the Control Room Version 11.3.2.2 patch to ensure any processes holding specific binaries are freed up.
  • Version 11.3.2To access the existing version of the IQ Bot using the upgraded Version 11.3.2 of the Control Room, disable the authentication by doing the following steps:
    1. Go to the config folder in the Control Room install folder.
    2. Add the following property on each node in the cluster.properties file:

      ignite.security.disable=true

      • In the distributed environment, open the cluster.properties file and add the property.
      • In the standalone environment, create a cluster.properties file, add the property, and save the file in the config folder.
    3. From the service console on each node, restart the Bot Insight and Control Room Windows services. See Verifying Automation Anywhere Windows services for a list of services.

When upgrading Control Room to Version 11.3.2, close any Java applications running on the machine.
