Install browser extensions offline on Windows device - Chromium-based web browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge use plugin files that are in the .crx format. These files are available along with the Bot Agent installation and can be used for installing the browser extensions offline.

Automation 360

Chromium-based web browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge use plugin files that are in the .crx format. These files are available along with the Bot Agent installation and can be used for installing the browser extensions offline.

Before you begin

Bot Agent must be installed on the Windows device before you begin. See .

About this task

The .crx extension files are included in the Bot Agent installation folder. You can install them offline using either of the following methods:

  • Add manually — drag the .crx file onto the browser's Extensions page. Use this method for a single device.
  • Force-install via registry — create registry entries that instruct the browser to install the extension from the local .crx file on the next browser start. Use this method for silent deployment across multiple devices.

Procedure

Add the extension manually

Use this procedure to install the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser extension by dragging the .crx file directly onto the browser's Extensions page.

  1. Open Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge and navigate to the Extensions page.
    • Chrome: enter chrome://extensions in the address bar.
    • Microsoft Edge: enter edge://extensions in the address bar.
  2. Turn on Developer mode using the toggle in the upper-right corner of the Extensions page.
The page refreshes to show developer options including Load unpacked and Pack extension buttons.
  3. Open File Explorer and navigate to the Bot Agent installation folder:
    C:\Program Files\Automation Anywhere\Bot Agent\AABrowserAgent
  4. Drag the .crx file for your browser from the folder onto the Extensions page.
    • Chrome: AABrowserAgentChrome.crx
    • Microsoft Edge: AABrowserAgentEdge.crx
  5. When the confirmation dialog appears, select Add extension.
The Automation 360 browser extension appears in the browser's Extensions list with its status set to Enabled.
Force-install the extension using the Windows registry

Use this procedure when you must deploy the browser extension silently across multiple machines without user interaction. This method creates registry entries that instruct the browser to install the extension from the local .crx file the next time it starts.

  1. Open Registry Editor on the Windows device.
    • Select Start, enter Registry Editor in the search bar, and press Enter.
    • Alternatively, press Windows+R, enter regedit, and select OK.
  2. Navigate to the registry key for your browser:
    • Chrome:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Google\Chrome\Extensions\bboccnojhhoegfffpcllbeigipedjedf
    • Microsoft Edge:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Edge\Extensions\fnmjcdajlonpigpcfnemeikipmolbfii

If the key does not exist, right-click the Extensions key and select New > Key. Name the new key using the extension ID shown above.

  3. Right-click in the right pane and select New > String Value. Name it path.
  4. Double-click path, select Modify, and enter the full path to the .crx file in the Value data field:
    • Chrome:
      C:\Program Files\Automation Anywhere\Bot Agent\AABrowserAgent\bboccnojhhoegfffpcllbeigipedjedf.crx
    • Microsoft Edge:
      C:\Program Files\Automation Anywhere\Bot Agent\AABrowserAgent\fnmjcdajlonpigpcfnemeikipmolbfii.crx
  5. Create a second string value named version and set its value data to the version number of the extension.
The version number is available in the Bot Agent release notes or on the Extensions page after a test installation on a connected device.
  6. Select OK to save the value, then close Registry Editor.
  7. Restart the browser.
The browser reads the registry entries on startup and automatically installs the extension. The Automation 360 extension appears in the Extensions list with its status set to Enabled.
